Join Our Team: Registered Nurse Position at Southern Cancer Center, Springhill Hospital

Southern Cancer Center is excited to announce an opportunity for a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Springhill Hospital.

Position Overview:

In this role, you will deliver exceptional nursing care under general supervision, ensuring adherence to both national and company standards, as well as specialty regulations. You will bring your expertise in understanding the physiological, psychological, and developmental differences across various age groups, from late adolescence through to the elderly, to provide tailored patient care.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Care Management:
    • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care in line with established standards and practices.
  • Health Assessment:
    • Interview patients to assess health status and medical history.
    • Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.
    • Review and report health status assessments, physical examinations, laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments to the provider.
  • Patient and Family Support:
    • Assess patient and family needs, providing teaching and instructional materials.
    • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Therapy Administration:
    • Prepare and administer therapies under physician direction and supervision.
    • Administer medications and blood products correctly, ensuring the right dosage, route, time, and technique.
    • Obtain pre-authorization and consent forms prior to therapy administration, as necessary.
  • Dose Modification and Procedures:
    • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patients, labs, protocols, and consulting with physicians.
    • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
  • Documentation and Reimbursement:
    • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
    • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
  • Work Environment Maintenance:
    • Restock supply areas as needed.
    • Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and materials potentially infected with bloodborne pathogens.
    • Maintain all disinfection protocols and equipment quality control standards.
  • Clinical Operations:
    • Manage patient medication refill requests and record information in patient charts.
    • Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
    • Maintain efficient patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
    • Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests, referrals, and future appointments.
    • Triage patient phone calls and document relevant information in patient charts.
    • Facilitate communication between patients/families and the interdisciplinary team.
    • Assist patients in locating community resources.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Interprofessional Collaboration:
    • Assist and collaborate with clinical research.
    • Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
    • Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
    • Engage in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing educational opportunities.
Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

Education & Training:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program, with preference for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Commitment to ongoing education to maintain professional qualifications.

Business Experience:

  • 0-3 years of nursing experience, ideally with at least one year in oncology settings.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: The work environment is typical of an oncology/hematology clinic, which may involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations. Reasonable accommodations are available to support individuals with disabilities in performing essential job functions.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Full range of body motion is necessary, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
    • Extensive periods of standing and walking are required.
    • Occasionally lift and carry items up to 40 lbs.
    • Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges are necessary.
Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

Infusion RN Key Responsibilities:

  • Therapy Preparation & Administration:
    • Program portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery, providing instruction for patient and caregiver use at home.
    • Demonstrate expertise in ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, including cleaning and documentation of pump usage.
